This is who I’m thinking of trying out in Grites, or one of it’s many versions any. Pinging is ALRIGHT, I’m sure I could maybe find some use for it (Pinging mana dorks? Okay). But I’m more interested in her -2 ability: Copying spells. (Any the fact that you can’t vapor snag a planeswalker. But that’s just because I’m annoyed at Delver right now. it’s worth noting that planeswalkers aren’t magically uncounterable, so that reason for liking Chandra is just totally baseless.)
Here are lists of spells in grites that I would like to copy:
Pillar of Flame
Lingering Souls
Unburial Rites (!!!!)
Okay you’re right. I mostly want to copy unburial rites. Is that being too greedy though? Does she really impact the board enough to justify her play? Maybe she’s just a sideboard card?
I’ll a share with you guys a list that I came up with for her, which is very much similar to my Grites list, but at the same time very different (More focus on red and white and Different fatties, like Gisela and Flayer). So here’s a link to my very outdated and unimpressive tapped out account.
Quick run down:
It has very much the same toolbox as my Grites list, but with a few differences
- More Tibalts = more looting.
- More Pillar of Flame
- More direct damage in general
- Chandra?! Okay okay, but imagine magical christmas land for a second, where you copy an unburial rites, and bring back flayer of the hatebound, and then Gisela (14 damage total). Or Elesh Norn and then Flayer (6 damage). Or just Elesh Norn and Gisela! It’s still two fatties that they have to deal with!
Is this build better than my grites build? I have no Idea. I’m in love with grites and am unlikely to switch to this, but I’m sure going to test it out. Chandra might end up as a sideboard card in my grites list.
Also I forgot to add cavern of souls, because this deck has room for it, whereas Grites didn’t. Remind me to do that? Lol.
I didn’t like her when I solitared with her. You have to build the deck in such a way that you have a lot of dredging effects, because it’s not super common to have two things in the GY at the same time. It sure is nice to get the Grislbrand+Wurmcoil Engine or what have you, but you start having to include cards like the desperate ravings or dangerous gambit to have the ability to copy unburial and be useful in the first place since youre not just plowing through cards
It also worked better in Frites, than Grites for me, but that’s another issue altogether.
Try it out, but I didn’t like it.
Really? Because I played Grites all through a Grand Prix and an FNM, plus many times casually, and there was never a game where I was lacking a variety of fatties to reanimate. Or to hardcast. Many games I had at least two copies of any given creature, one in hand, and another one or two in the grave.
My ‘dredge’(ish) effects were Two Tibalts, 4 Faithless Looting, and I believe it was 3 Zombie Infestation the time. I would definitely qualify that as ‘plowing through cards’. I had a handful of games where I was approaching the point of worrying that I was going to mill myself out. Filling the grave isn’t as hard as you make it sound.
This deck list that I’m proposing now (Chandra reanimator of sorts) lacks zombie infestations, but has 4 Tibalts, and 4 Faithless looting. I wish it could be desperate ravings as well, but I don’t want to play blue to flash those back. That’s still only 1 less discard engine than my original Grites build, and there is still space in the deck to squeeze in some other engines, like Zombie infestation if I feel that the looting is too light. Which I really don’t. (Although I love Zombie infestation and actually HAVE been looking for a way to jam a couple copies of it in there as well)
But then again, what I’ve read from you, you have a very different Grite build than I do?
Pretty different yeah. I just worry about not having a target for the double effect, since functionally sweepers do very little when doubled (take out undyers which is funny, but not necessary) Generally you’re using faithless almost immediately as you get them, and the loss of more of your discard outlets won’t keep the GY as full as you want. Again, try it. If you manage to get it work please report back, because I have a load of Chandra’s sitting in a binder itching to come out.
I don’t even know if you know how little sense you are making to me right now.
reblogging again because: NO, like, literally none of your arguments make sense.
How am I ‘loosing’ discard outlets, first of all? By using them? No. It’s called USING THEM, I get the effect that I want! And lets also point out here that the effects are REUSABLE.
Second of all, this deck contains SO MUCH MORE to duplicate, why the HELL would I try to copy a sweeper?! How about we copy: Unburial rites to get tons of fatties, lingering souls to get tons of blockers, pillar of flame to deal a little extra damage?! Using chandra, you could literally get FOUR uses out of ONE lingering souls. Do you know how useful that is against aggro strategies?! You could also get away with copying a timely reinforcements, if you’re that far behind! There’s even something to be said for copying a sweeper, whipflare, against a bunch of pumped up spirit tokens!
You’re bringing up issues that YOUR deck list has, not mine. I really think that you’re just saying words that make no sense for the sake of saying something. Because seriously dude, you’re trying to tell me that Chandra only works in a deck that has lots of ‘dredging’ effects? WELL GOOD THINGS I PUT HER IN A DECK THAT HAS LOTS OF LOOTING EFFECTS. Good god, Grites is a GRAVEYARD based deck! And you’re trying to tell me that it doesn’t put enough cards in the yard to support copying an Unburial Rites? Then I don’t know what the heck kind of twisted Grites you’re playing, but clearly you must not loot as aggressively as I do! Or maybe it’s because your only discard outlets are Faithless looting and 2 liliana’s, where as my chandra version runs four Looting and four Tibalts (Already MUCH better odds, 4 looting with flashback, and four that are continually renewable), and my traditional verison runs 4 looting, 2 tibalts, 2 lilianas, and 4 Zombie Infestation (That’s 12 outlets, not counting the looting effects that are reusable).
Again, you’re full of crap? I think, probably? It’s cool that you built yours on a budget, but damn, you can’t let your experience with your budget deck effect your opinions on a deck that uses MUCH different cards.
The idea is cool, its something thats a little out there like my brother likes to play lol. and i agree that the other guy doesnt really make sense… idk how many chandras and tybalts should be run, it might work better to have zombie infestation and 2 of each of the walkers, or you could just use increasing vengeance, which i personally think has a little more utility because if its cancelled you can flash it back, in a reannimator deck you cant really bring back planeswalkers, plus her abilities only act at sorcery speed, where as increasing vengeance is at instant speed and can be used during an opponents turn if needed. i like the idea of copying, but idk if chandra is the best way to do it
